The following three design concepts reinterpret the same 11m x 9m plot in contrasting ways, each elegantly addressing the requirement for privacy. Together, they present three unique expressions of outdoor living, highlighting Walklands Garden Design’s versatility and design expertise across a range of styles and atmospheres.
Modern Garden using Silver-Grey Planting and Gravel : This garden is both practical and contemporary, with an understated elegance.
A raised circular dining area forms the central focal point, with an outdoor kitchen positioned discreetly behind it. Placed amongst the gravel bed, the oversized porcelain pavers are softened by silver-grey planting and ornamental grasses, creating a balanced contrast between structure and softness.
A garden shed is tucked away at the far end of the space, screened by a trellis panel, in front of which a relaxed chill-out area features sun loungers and a still water element. Crisp living wall sections are set within organic hazel hurdle fence panels, while a mix of open-canopied small trees provides dappled shade and a sense of privacy for both the home and garden.
A contemporary metal louvred-roof pergola anchors the main seating area, providing privacy, flexible shade and shelter throughout the seasons. Two generous lawn areas offer ample space for children and pets to play, while a beautifully designed and highly practical garden room provides versatile use as a home office, craft room, teenage hangout or playroom.
Tightly clipped evergreen hedges create a strong architectural backdrop, contrasting with the softness and movement of grasses and tall herbaceous planting. Horizontal slatted boundary panels complete the scheme, supporting climbing roses and a statement Wisteria that will mature to add seasonal interest, fragrance and natural screening.
Sustainable, long-lasting and non-slip bamboo decking is a key material within this unique garden layout, which features a series of layered decks, connecting walkways, porcelain-paved terraces and floating concrete steps. Two sunken water features frame the central dining area, which is complemented by a compact BBQ space for relaxed outdoor entertaining.
